PREDICT THE VIOLENCE

You could be involved in a potentially life threatening relationship if your partner shows any of the following traits:

• Has frequent episodes of anger or rage;

• Uses drugs or alcohol;

• Claims ownership of you;

• Becomes obsessive about you or family;

• Has committed acts of violence;

• Becomes more violent with the violence occurring more frequently;

• Displays stalking behavior;

• Makes threats to kill you or commit suicide;

• Has access to weapons;

• Isn't concerned about legal consequences; and

• Disobeys court orders.

Stress, alcohol, drug abuse or mental illness do not cause domestic violence. Don't let your abuser use any of these as an excuse for his or her behavior.
